c1969 Gibson J-160E Cherry Sunburst

c1969 Gibson J-160E Cherry Sunburst

Representing an early experiment by Gibson in manufacturing mass-produced acoustic/electric instruments, the J-160E is perhaps most notable as being famously played by John Lennon. Super characterful wear-pattern, resulting in a subdued cherry burst, and sporting many of the hallmarks that come to identify late 60's Gibsons such as a slim neck profile and witch hat black knobs. Single ring Kluson tuners are present, which we believe may indicate this to be an early-mid 1969 model. This was also the first year introducing square-shoulders to the model, in contrast to earlier slope-shoulder models. Nut width measures a 1 11/16" contrary to the Gibson standard during this era. We believe at some point, the bridge has been re-glued.

Plays excellently with a low-action and is currently strung with light nickel electric strings.

Oh, and it sounds incredible plugged in!
