1920s Kumalae Gold Award Soprano Ukulele Koa
A great sounding piece of Hawaiian music history!
Started by American businessman Jonah Kumalae in 1911, the Kumalae ukuleles were one of the best selling ukuleles made during the height period of interest in Hawaiian music. Notably, Kumalae won a Gold Award for his ukuleles at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 with all future ukuleles receiving this designation on the headstock. This model dates more than likely to the 1920s and features the fancier 'rope binding'. Outside of the tuners, the rest of the ukulele appears to be all original. An incredibly fun and gorgeous looking historical instrument!
Cosmetic condition is excellent for its age with only minor dings and wear throughout. Hardware is fully functional, and plays with a low-medium action. Includes the original case.Ā
